De wereld barst vandaag van de opportuniteiten!  Dankzij nieuwe technologieën kan een onderneming met een slim idee op elk moment en in één vingerknip een bestaande markt inpalmen of kan een organisatie directe toegevoegde waarde brengen.

Fysieke nabijheid? Dit speelt hierin nauwelijks nog een rol.

Daarom moeten bedrijven en organisaties nu per definitie optreden in een digitale, globale markt. Zowel de evolutie van technologie als het inspelen op klantengemak en personalisatie tonen bijkomend aan dat we volop in een shift van aanbodeconomie naar vraageconomie zitten. Dit geldt ook voor overheden.

Daarbij verzamelen IoT en Business Intelligence data die de groei nog kunnen vergroten omdat artificiële intelligentie en machine learning uit die data predictieve modellen maken. In de niet zo verre toekomst kunt u dus bij doorgedreven digitalisering en het volledig inzetten van alle mogelijkheden al gaan voorspellen wat de volgende stappen zullen zijn (of aankoop van uw klant is).

Ga er dus vanuit dat iedereen zal digitaliseren en dat het nodig is om nu zelfs al aan de volgende fase te denken. Accenture noemt dit de “post-digtal era” waarbij ze verwijzen naar DARQ (Distributed  ledger technology – Artificial intelligence – Extended reality – Quantum computing).

1. The financing must match the business, and not vice versa.

In the face of rapid digitalization, companies are under increasing pressure to be flexible and adaptable. Structures and processes also change, and the departments have far greater input in capital investment decisions. Financing models that may have been suitable 20 years ago have become obsolete. Lean processes and customized billing models are key – they give the finance department the flexibility that it would like to offer its colleagues in other departments.

2. Bringing together the CFO, CIO, and department is more a question of having the right strategy, rather than good fortune.

Turning these three decision-makers into a single powerful unit is one of the key challenges that companies face. This is where being agile has its benefits – it involves not only optimum collaboration on innovation and manufacturing, but also agreement on how to finance them. That is why companies need modern, agile financing concepts, not the term loans of yesteryear.

3. Companies are missing out on potential for innovation by relying on long-established financing concepts. 

There is always a certain amount of risk involved with innovation, and risk is the treasury department’s natural enemy. With standard financing concepts, it is rarely possible to strike a balance between these attitudes to risk. Instead, new approaches can provide a long-term boost to innovation. One example is ‘try and use’, where equipment is supplied with a short-term exit option in case the project does not work out.

4. Even non-standard financing models can be managed – with the right tools.

Having a customized funding concept for each project is only possible with total transparency and maximum control. Opkomende technologieën doen zich op alle gebieden van ons leven gelden; ook het traditionele datacenter ontkomt daar niet aan. Datacenterarchitectuur en bedrijfsprocessen veranderen nu al door geavanceerde technologieën en software-innovaties en er staat ons nog heel veel te wachten.

In deze blog kijken we naar enkele van de meest revolutionaire ontwikkelingen die nu en de komende jaren de toon zetten voor datacenters.

Hybride van ontwerp

Ondernemingen beseffen dat ze naar de cloud moeten kijken, maar slechts weinig bedrijven hebben het gevoel dat ze volledig op de publieke cloud kunnen vertrouwen om hun gevoelige gegevens veilig te stellen. Dit leidt ze richting een hybride benadering: 53% van de Europese ondernemingen is van plan een hybride cloudoplossing voor hun bedrijfs-IT te gebruiken, of gebruikt deze nu al, volgens ons onderzoek dat we deden met IDC.

Gecoloceerde hybride datacenters stellen bedrijven in staat hun eigen IT-infrastructuur naast toegangspoorten van de publieke cloud te plaatsen, waardoor ze de voordelen kunnen plukken van een uitbestede colocatie-oplossing in combinatie met private aansluitpunten op een van de de grote cloudplatformen.

De overstap naar een door software gedefinieerde omgeving

Omdat de grootste kostenpost voor bedrijven, wat datacenters betreft, in het verleden altijd de hardware was, wordt hardware in datacenters steeds meer vervangen door software en volgens Markets and Markets leidt dit er zelfs toe dat de door software gedefinieerde bedrijfstak tot meer dan USD 84 miljard in 2022 zal groeien.

Naast het feit dat dure, ruimte en stroom vretende hardware steeds minder nodig zal zijn, kennen door software gedefinieerde datacenters ook minder uitval, zijn ze onderhoudsvrijer en vergen ze een lager elektriciteitsverbruik, hetgeen allemaal sterk bijdraagt aan kostenverlaging en milieuvriendelijkheid. De ontwikkeling richting een door software gedefinieerde datacacenteromgeving begint met virtualisatie, omgevingen waarin fysieke servers miljoenen digitale machines ondersteunen.

Bedrijven kunnen zich geleidelijk richting een volledig gevirtualiseerde, door software-gedefinieerde architectuur ontwikkelen door hun netwerk-, opslag-, rekenfunctionaliteit en beveiliging op eigen tempo te virtualiseren.

Containers voor applicaties

Nu virtualisatie zich samen met de opkomst van cloud- en software-as-a-service-oplossingen geleidelijk ontwikkelt, is er behoefte ontstaan aan een meer flexibele benadering van de levering van applicaties en diensten. Dit heeft geleid tot het gebruik van ‘containers’ om applicaties te bouwen die direct geleverd kunnen worden en die flexibel op- en afschalen mogelijk maken.

Containers leiden tot nieuwe kansen die het gemakkelijker maken clouddiensten binnen het datacenter te leveren. De technologie wordt massaal omarmd en volgens 451 Research zullen de inkomsten in de applicatiecontainermarkt tegen 2021 verviervoudigen.

Edge-datacenters doen hun intrede

Naarmate de toekomst van netwerken veel meer gedistribueerd wordt, worden edge-datacenters steeds crucialer voor bedrijven. De enorme groei in het verbruik van IoT-data door mobiele apparaten en het toegenomen gebruik van sterk gedistribueerde applicaties door bedrijven vergt een meer gespreide benadering. Gartner voorspelt zelfs dat in 2022 50% van de door ondernemingen gegenereerde data buiten een traditioneel gecentraliseerd(e) datacenter of cloud aangemaakt en verwerkt zal worden.

Flash heeft de toekomst

De dagen van al die rijen draaiende schijven liggen voorgoed achter ons nu efficiëntere volledig-flash-oplossingen ervoor in de plaats komen. De kosten van flash-oplossingen zijn de afgelopen jaren razendsnel gedaald, terwijl de betrouwbaarheid, prestaties en capaciteit ervan sterk zijn toegenomen. Dit biedt bedrijven nu de kans een All-Flash Array te overwegen. Volgens IDC is de markt voor All Flash Arrays in het eerste kwartaal van 2018 met 54,7% gegroeid ten opzichte van het voorgaande jaar.

De introductie van 3D NAND flash heeft dit nog extra gewicht meegegeven. Volgens velen is dit de grootste revolutie binnen de geheugentechnologie van de afgelopen decennia en flash overschrijdt nu de opslagdichtheid van HDD’s; de nieuwste versies presteren tot wel 1.000 maal zo snel.

Een datacenter voor het digitale tijdperk

Het datacenter speelt nu al een kritische rol om bedrijven te helpen innoveren en groeien, maar naarmate onder andere de eerdergenoemde technologieën steeds volwassener worden zal de invloed van datacenters alleen maar verder toenemen.
